Troubleshooting Support
Silicon Mountain Memory strives to deliver only the highest quality memory solutions. If at any time you have questions regarding the installation of any of our products, please feel free to contact us directly at 888.745.6866 to speak with one of our memory professionals. The following tips may also help you during the installation process.
- Consult your system manual for any specific requirements and/or related DRAM installation instructions. Common requirements include: kit requirements, speed requirements, BIOS revisions, and maximum allowable RAM.
- Preview the SIMM, DIMM, or SO-DIMM installation guide prior to installing the new upgrade.
- Ensure that all expansion sockets are dust free and functional. This can be accomplished by installing the existing memory in any alternate expansion sockets.
- Make certain the memory is seated properly in the socket. The memory should “click” into place with a minimal amount of force. Forcing memory into the socket may damage the module(s), as well as the socket itself.
- Check to be sure that the new memory is of the same form factor as the installed memory. Alternate form factors are non-interchangeable and the vast majority of systems will accept only a single type of Computer Memory (168-pin, 184-pin, 200-pin, 72-pin, etc.).
- If the memory fails to function, or to reach the correct total capacity, attempt installing the module alone by removing any existing memory.
- Install the module with the largest capacity in the first memory slot.
- Re-boot after re-installing the memory
- Update your system with the latest BIOS version.
If the above steps do not solve your problem, you may need to speak directly with one of our memory professionals to resolve your issue. Please contact our Customer Advocate Team at 888.745.6866 or via email at support@smmdirect.com. To facilitate the process, please have the following information available:
- The SMM order/invoice number or your PO number.
- The SMM part number (from the packing slip) or the SMM bar code number (from the sticker on the module).
- A detailed description of the problem (e.g. the system won’t boot, there’s an error message, Blue Screen, system is not recognizing the new memory, etc…).
